USM Reissue News (including ‘Wonderful’)

The question has been raised as to whether the EMI reissue of ‘Mad Not Mad’ would fit into the ordering scheme, found on the spines of the double CDs, that Union Square Music has been revealing one album at a time. The answer? Yes.

With the new information Madness Central has on the forthcoming 6th September ‘Wonderful’ reissue, it can extrapolated as such:

It’s worth mentioning the liner notes for ‘Wonderful’ are provided by Robert Elms entitled “I Knew You’d Come Back”, presumedly in allusion to the lyric from the ‘Wonderful’ track “Saturday Night Sunday Morning.” The album is dedicated to Ian Dury who contributed vocals on the track “Drip Fed Fred”; Dury continues to be cited by the band as a huge influence upon Madness’ music.

The Dangermen Fifth Anniversary Contest courtesy of Madness Central

In August, 2005, Madness donned the guise of The Dangermen, a seven-piece outfit that looked and sounded a lot like Madness, the only difference being The Dangermen preferred cover songs to original material.

Since the 80s the band had been mulling about the idea of a covers album. It wasn’t until 2005, though, that they finally committed to the project and came up with a selection ska-tinged cover versions of songs from Motown to classic reggae.

To commemorate this, the five year anniversary of “The Dangermen Volume One”, Madness Central is holding a contest for three lovely and spectacular prizes, all of which being from the Dangermen era of our favourite band.

Yeovil Youth Theatre to perform “Our House” musical

Madness Central has been alerted to a youth production of the Madness musical “Our House” set for the stage in early November.

THE Yeovil Youth Theatre will be presenting the Madness musical Our House at the Octagon Theatre later this year.

The production will be performed at the Octagon from November 3-6 nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available now from the Octagon box office priced at £14 and at £12 for concessions, with a group rate of ten or more people at just £10 each.

There is, however, an ‘early bird’ discount offer in which people can buy tickets for just £10 if bought before October 1.

Madness at T in the Park on BBC 4

On 20 August, a one hour showing of Madness’ performance at Scotland’s T in the Park will be broadcast on BBC 4. The airing will start at 9:20 pm.

The programme will be aired two more times on the following days. On 21 August the programme begins at 1:20 am, and on 22 August the programmed begins at 11:25 pm.
